Mission Statement

The mission of Hales Franciscan High School, a team of dedicated and caring adults, working in alliance with parents and community support groups, is to educate young African-American men "Unto Perfect Manhood" by devoting themselves to excellence in their life work; encouraging service in their communities; preparing them for a successful college experience; developing their intellectual capability; instilling in them a strong sense of the sacred dignity of the individual through responsibility, perseverance, discipline, confidence and compassionate service to others; and teaching them to uphold the values expressed in Christian, Catholic, and Franciscan traditions.

1962 School Opens
1963 School Officially dedicated by the Franciscan Friars of the Sacred heart & Archdiocese of Chicago
1966 First Graduating Class
1970 City football champions
1973 City basketball champions
1984 State of Illinois recognizes Hales Franciscan High School as  a "Blue Ribbon" School in demonstrating significant improvement by overcoming serious obstacles.
1985 Schools receives "Exemplary Private School" award from President Reagan for outstanding academic and social achievement.
1988  Hales Franciscan receives "Excellence in Education" award.
1993 Franciscan Province & Archdiocese of Chicago officially designate governance of Hales Franciscan to a lay Board of Trustees.
2nd Place - Class A State Basketball Tournament

100% graduates accepted into college.
1999 President Clinton recognizes Hales Franciscan High School for its contribution to the community
2000 Enrollment highest in 20 years - 397 students

Bob Anderson (Class of 1967) becomes first Alumnus President.
